Consular Services


The Consular Section provides a full range of consular services and support to the Nigerian citizen in Greece, as well as visa services to Greek and other nationals. Notarial services are available at the Consular Section of the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in Athens Greece. Consular services includes issuing of, Emergency Travel Certificate (ETC), Documents Authentication, Certificate of Nationality, Family Status, Fingerprinting, Letter of Certification, Letter for Lost Passport, Letters for Educational Institutes, and Conveyance of Body to Nigeria for burial.

APPLICATION PROCEDURES AND REQUIREMENTS:

Emergency Travel Document
Emergency Travel Documents are given to facilitate one-way return for Nigerian Nationals stranded here in Greece or being deported. These documents are retrieved on arrival in Nigeria by the relevant authority. Forms are available on this links, and can be downloaded, printed out and returned to the Embassy with the following:

  • Letter by applicant stating why he or she need the Emergency Travel Document
  • Data Page of Nigerian Passport or evidence to show that the applicant is a Nigerian
  • 2 copies Passport Photographs (preferably on a white background)
  • Sum of 50.00 Euro
  • Copy of ticket (Printed out and Clearly photocopy)
  • Note For minors:

In addition, for children under the age of 17 years old, a consent letter from the father, or if the mother has legal guardianship, a consent letter from the mother as well as their passport photograph to accompany the child's application or Birth Registry Deed, on which the mother's name shall be reflected.
General Note, ETC applicants are requested to make prior arrangement with IOM.

Documents Authentication
Submitting Documents for Authentication, Please note the following:

  • Original document or documents from Nigeria and attested by the Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja
  • For laminated documents, a certified copy of the original, done by the Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja.
  • Sum of 30.00 Euro

Certificate of Nationality

  • Please note the following for submitting an application:
  • Application at the Embassy
  • Copy of valid Nigerian Passport of the applicant
  • One (1) Passport Photograph
  • Sum of 30.00 Euro
  • For certificate of Nationality for Educational institutes in Greece, the applicant is required to supply document certified by the Nigeria Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja which reflects the father's and mother's name.

Family Status
Please note the following for submitting a request:

  • Application at the Embassy
  • Marriage Certificate
  • Applicant's Passport
  • Copies of Children's Nigerian Passports or copies of Birth Registry Deeds which MUST reflect the applicant's name, and surname of his/her Children.
  • Sum of 30.00 Euro
  • If the Spouse carries a Nigerian Passport and shares the same surname as the applicant, NO Marriage Certificate is necessary.
  • It is advisable that Children have a Nigerian Passport, No child can be included in a Family Status if he/she carries a different passport.

Fingerprinting

  • Application form at the Embassy and fingerprinting in the presence of Consular Staff
  • Sum of 30.00 Euro.

Letter of Certification
Please note the following for submitting a request:

  • Application Form at the Embassy
  • Copy of valid Nigerian Passport
  • Sum of 30.00 Euro
  • Depending on the nature of the request additional documentation may be required.

Letter for Lost Passport
The following are required:

  • Application at the Embassy
  • Copy of missing Passport or the number of the missing Passport
  • Sum of 30.00 Euro
  • One (1) copy of passport photograph.

Letter for Educational Institutes
The following are required:

  • Application at the Embassy
  • Relevant documentation from Nigeria certified by the Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja
  • Sum of 30.00 Euro.

Conveyance of Body to Nigeria for Burial (GRATIS)
Please note, all listed herein are required:

  1. Authorization from the family as to where the corpse will be buried
  2. If the corpse is to be buried in Nigeria, the following MUST be submitted

- Letter of Authorization
- ID documents of the Deceased (Passport or Birth Certificate)
- Relevant documentation from the burial office for the conveyance of the corpse to Nigeria. This documentation MUST be translated and certified by the Greek Foreign Ministry.
